Anthropic has renamed its two Claude Max subscription plans and removed the five-hour usage limit on the more expensive one, according to The Next Web.

The $100-a-month plan formerly called Max 5x is now just Max, and the $200-a-month Max 20x plan is now Ultra, The Next Web reported. The company said on X on Friday that prices will stay the same.

Verified Ultra accounts no longer have a usage limit that resets every five hours. According to the report, most existing subscribers got the change on Friday. Newer accounts keep a temporary limit until Anthropic verifies them, which the company said helps prevent fraud and abuse. Those users will get an email when the limit is lifted. Weekly limits are unchanged.

The Next Web reported that Anthropic's pricing page now lists Max at five times Pro usage, both every five hours and every week, with $100 a month in API credits. Ultra is listed at ten times Pro usage every week, with no five-hour limit for verified accounts, and $200 a month in API credits. Both plans include Fable, which the outlet described as Anthropic's top model, for up to half of the weekly limit. In Europe, the two plans cost €90 and €180 a month.

The renaming also changes how the top plan's usage is described. The old Max 20x name pointed to 20 times Pro usage. The pricing page now lists ten times Pro usage a week for Ultra. The Next Web said Anthropic's post did not mention that change.

Usage limits on these plans have been a point of dispute. The Next Web noted that a lawsuit filed in June claimed Anthropic oversold the usage on both Max plans. In May, Anthropic doubled five-hour limits for Claude Code, citing new computing capacity from SpaceX, according to the outlet. In April, it blocked OpenClaw and other third-party agent tools from using Claude subscriptions.

Several questions remain open. The report does not explain why Ultra's weekly allowance is listed at ten times Pro usage when the old name pointed to 20 times. It does not say how long verification takes for newer accounts, or how many subscribers are still waiting for it. It also does not give the current status of the June lawsuit or say whether Anthropic has responded to it.
