Editorial policy

How pieces on morais.news are chosen, written and checked, including how AI is used.

Use of AI

Many pieces are drafted by AI from source material: articles from established news outlets, official documents, and Roger's own notes. The AI is told to use only facts found in those sources, never facts from its own memory.

Before a draft reaches Roger, a second AI model, run separately from the one that wrote it, compares the draft with the sources and lists anything it cannot find there. Roger sees that list when he reviews the draft.

Every draft is then read, edited and approved by Roger. Nothing is published automatically.

Labels

Each piece carries one of three labels at the top. AI-drafted means the AI wrote the draft from the listed sources and Roger reviewed and approved it. AI-assisted means Roger wrote it, with AI helping on research or editing. Written by Roger means just that.

Images

Photos are licensed from Unsplash or taken by us. Some illustrations are made with AI, and their captions say "AI-generated image". AI images are never used to show real events or real people as if they were photographs.

Sources and credit

Every piece built on other reporting links to its sources at the end. Stories are drafted only from articles we could fetch openly, following each site's rules for automated access. Where we can, a story draws on two or more outlets. A story that rests on a single report names that report in the text and is published only when Roger decides it should be. Reporting by other outlets is credited to them, and morais.news does not claim reporting it did not do.

Mistakes

When something is wrong, it is fixed, the article says what changed, and the fix is listed on the corrections page.
